Put
together half way through 1999, the No Smoking Band can be
called the "Lima Family of Rock". Formed by the
experient musician Miguel Tatton (most known as Miguelito)
and his three sons, Alexandre, Erik and Lucas, the band is
the result of a family which always lived music. Miguel
plays since childhood and was in the most famous Campo
Grande's rock band of the 60s: the Mini Boys. He also went
through the 70s ahead of the Zutrik, progressive rock band
which today is a show band, managed by Miguelito himself.
The
same way as the father, Alexandre and Erik also stepped
right into the music world. Alexandre, bass player, has
played with bands known in Campo Grande as Grass. Erik, on
the other hand, played the drums for the Nipe band and was
part also of the Maria Tonteira band. The youngest of the
bunch, Lucas, is only 10 years old and already plays the
guitar like few are able to.
The
No Smoking Band has already shown its work to the public,
for instance, as the highlight, together with the Bando do
Velho Jack band (nowadays the most known group in Mato
Grosso do Sul state), in a 2000 show which took place in the
former Mississippi Bar e Choperia. It should be pinted out
the recording the band did for the state educational TV
station's program Som do Mato.
The
band's repertoire, the members' own compositions, relies on
instrumental songs which a mixture of rock (specially the
progressive and the psycodelic), jazz and even classic music,
a blend which may be branded as authentic fusion. The main
influences are bands like Pink Floyd, Rush, Yes and Black
Sabbath. This is what makes the No Smoking Band sound flow
from pop to alternative music.
The
band has already recorded a CD. However, there is still a
need for financial support in order to finish up the work,
like mixing and masterization. Miguelito believes the CD
will be soon available to the public in the music stores.
